Biofeedback
Biofeedback involves using the mind to control or monitor bodily functions that are not normally under conscious control.
For example, if a person has fecal incontinence, they are connected to electrical monitors that monitor bowel contractions, and by trial and error, they can learn to manipulate and control these contractions so that they can work to being less fecal incontinent or not incontinent at all. Others learn to monitor their blood pressure or heart rate.
Biofeedback was originally a very amazing discovery back in the nineteen sixties, and it has led to many types of medical interventions that used to be thought impossible. Brain activity can even be controlled using biofeedback.
Biopsy
medical procedure
Biopsy involves taking a sample of tissue in order to do a detailed examination.
This is a common procedure when determining whether a tumor or mass is cancerous. If the mass is on the skin, such as an abnormal mole, a local anesthetic is often used. If internal a surgical procedure with general anesthesia may be involved. Biopsies can be simple or invasive or somewhere in between.
