Bacteria

noun

A type of microorganism, such as Staph, Chlamydia, Clostridium Welchii, or E. coli that can be involved with creating some varieties of sickness and disease. Some kinds of bacteria are healthy, like the ones found in yogurt. Also, some bacteria such as resistant strains of Staphylococcus, can be quite dangerous.

Urine is sterile, and unless an infection is present does not contain bacteria. The digestive system, on the other hand, contains many varieties of beneficial bacteria. They aid in the digestion of food and exist in a normal symbiosis with the person.

Bacteria differ from viruses, and treatments differ as well.

These organisms can only be seen with a microscope. Louis Pasteur, a Frenchman on the forefront of the history of science and bacteria, made many legendary discoveries about bacteria in the 19th Century. His discoveries revolutionized both science and medicine and led towards active knowledge of immunizations against bacterial infections.
