Anaesthetic

noun

General or Local, this refers to a substance or drug that is used to reduce pain in a specific area, as in a local anesthetic, or make someone unconscious with a general anesthetic.

General anesthetics are commonly used in surgical procedures, sometimes combined with other medications. Local anesthetics can be used for suturing wounds or minor surgical procedures where the patient does not need to be unconscious.

Derived from Greek “anaísthēt(os)”, which means “senseless.”

Anal canal

noun

The anal canal is the ending part of the rectum at the final portion of the digestive system. It is the last inch before the anal opening and extending below the pelvic diaphragm.

“Anus” is derived from the Latin word for ring, “ānus.”

Anal fissure

noun

An anal fissure is a split in the skin in or around the anus, frequently caused by passing large or hard feces. Infants 6 months to two years commonly develop them. Most of the time they heal without surgery, but may be alleviated by a surgical procedure if it does not heal.

“Anus”, in Latin “ānus,” means “ring”.
