Aging
verb
Aging is becoming older, a genetic process on a cellular level. There are many ways to live a longer, healthier life, yet aging is a natural process and there is no “cure.” Living a long healthy life can come from a good diet and exercise program, staying away from drugs and tobacco, and drinking alcohol only moderately and occasionally, staying active, maintaining a social network including family and friends, and keeping yourself happy. There are many things that you can do to live a healthy life, and many researchers are working on helping to extend the human life span.
Incontinence happens more often in the later stages of life but is not restricted to it. Young adults, teens and children also experience incontinence. As a person gets older, the detrusor muscles tend to atrophy or weaken and urinary incontinence is more likely. At later stages of aging, muscle cells begin to atrophy, and urinary and fecal incontinence are even more likely. Also, prostate cancer, which is very common in elderly men, can cause incontinence and the need for incontinence products.
